Information Literacy within the Kennett Consolidated School District

ImageThe mission of the Kennett Consolidated School District’s (KCSD) information literacy program is to ensure that students and staff members are effective users of ideas and information, empowering them to become informed and responsible contributors to society.

The information literacy program within the KCSD provides all individuals with a process for learning that is transferable among content areas both in an academic environment and the real world.

The Kennett High School Library Media Center supports information literacy within the school community through a variety of services and programs.

The library staff welcomes students to use the library for a variety of purposes including research, computer use, magazine and newspaper reading, and book selection.  Throughout the year, the KHS Library sponsors programs to encourage literacy including coffee houses and monthly book club meetings.

The library is open Monday through Friday from 7:15-3:15, with extended hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays until 4:30. The library’s virtual collection is available to students 24-7 at http://catalog.kcsd.org/common/welcome.jsp?site=100.  A wealth of electronic resources ranging from the library’s catalog, electronic books, and reference and periodical databases are all accessible from home.

Home passwords are available from the library staff.  In addition, students are encouraged to apply for a public library card from Bayard Taylor Memorial Library to access the Power Library databases provided by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.  Additional information about library procedures and resources can be directed to Library Media Specialist Ms. Lisa Teixeira at 610-444-6617.
