Educational Planning Guide

We are proud to announce a partnership with Delaware County and Community College where our teachers have been approved to teach college courses here at Kennett High School! This is a great opportunity for our students. Below is DCCC eligibility information, as well as courses available at KHS for the 2026-27 school year. 

Students can qualify for DCCC courses through multiple pathways, including SAT, PSAT, ACT, AP scores, and overall GPA. Please review the information below to determine if you meet the qualifications or if a placement test is required. If you have any questions, reach out to your school counselor. Use the links below to learn more about eligibility.
 

• Select the course as part of the course selection process at KHS.  
• Apply at the DCCC High School Dual Enrollment section of their website.  (This should be completed by the end of March.)
• Meet eligibility criteria for the specific course can be found at the DCCC High School Alternative Measures for College Placement section of their website. 
• Students who don’t meet eligibility requirements must successfully pass a placement test for enrollment into the Delaware County Community College course.  Placement testing information can be found at the Placement Testing section of the DCCC website. 
   

Full Year - 8 College Credits from Delaware County and Community College (DCCC) - 1 KHS Credit

The College Math Course is open to eligible students who meet the DCCC selection criteria. Students should check with their counselor to ensure they meet selection criteria.  Delaware County Community College eligibility criteria can be found at the eligibility section of their website. This class is two college courses in one; therefore, students will be exposed to college appropriate materials, teaching methods, and topics.

This course will cost approximately $145 per credit ($580 due in August/September and $580 due in January/February, unless otherwise directed by DCCC). All college fees are the responsibility of the students.  Please note that per credit tuition is established by the college or university and subject to change. 

The first half of the year students will take MAT 151  College Algebra. Topics covered include solving equations (linear, quadratic, radical, polynomial, rational, and absolute value), solving inequalities (linear, polynomial, rational, and absolute value), operations in the Rectangular Coordinate System and the Complex Number System, basic function operations (domain, range, graphing, arithmetic, composition and inverses), and functions (linear, quadratic, polynomial, rational, exponential and logarithmic). Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to: Perform operations in the Complex Number System. Solve equations and inequalities. Perform operations in the Rectangle Coordinate System. Define, evaluate, perform operations and graph functions. Analyze polynomial functions. Analyze rational functions. Analyze exponential and logarithmic functions.

The second half of the year will be MAT 152 - Precalculus, 4 Credits (DCCC). Together with College Algebra, it prepares students for Calculus I at DCCC. Topics covered include trigonometric functions, analytic trigonometry, triangle applications of trigonometric functions, analytic geometry, systems of equations, and sequences and series. NOTE: Students must earn a grade of 'C' or higher in MAT 151 to be eligible for MAT 152.  

Full Year - 3 College Credits from Delaware County Community College - 1 KHS Credit

This course will cost approximately $145 per credit ($435 due in August unless otherwise directed by unless otherwise directed by DCCC). All college fees are the responsibility of the students. Please note that per credit tuition is established by DCCC and subject to change.

This course reviews the principles of composition, including rhetoric, grammar, and usage. It emphasizes critical thinking, the recursive nature of writing, the writing of analytical essays, and the application of information literacy skills. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to apply college-level critical thinking and writing in various rhetorical situations, including the synthesis of appropriate sources to produce a research paper with accurate documentation.

Eligibility requirements: To be eligible to take this course, a student must be an academic junior and on track to graduate, meet DCCC eligibility requirements, and have a recommendation from their English teacher. Students are expected to maintain a 2.0 (C-average) over the course of the semester.
 

1/2 year, 18 weeks, semester course - 1 HS credit and 4 college credits.

This course is designed to introduce students to the science of astronomy, its history, and its importance as an influence on our view of humankind.  

Tuition is approximately $145 per credit and payable directly to the college at the beginning of the semester. Please note that per credit tuition is established by the college or university and subject to change. 
 

Students will conduct astronomical observations using software, telescopes, and star charts to study objects in the night sky. Practical observational activities are designed to foster a conceptual understanding of how objects from great distances are studied from the earth. The course is intended for non-science majors.  Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to: Explain what tools and methods are used by astronomers to make observations and gather information about the universe. Describe the contributions made by early astronomers, and how it led to the current view of our universe. Demonstrate an understanding of the origins, structure, and evolution of our solar system, stars, galaxies and the universe. Investigate the possibility of life existing elsewhere in the universe. Use star charts and/or planetarium software to survey the night sky and discover various celestial objects. Use problem solving techniques to analyze and interpret data from student observations and/or astronomical observatories. College Academic Learning Goal Designation: Scientific Reasoning (SI) Prerequisite:  Students must successfully meet DCCC eligibility requirements.

Through our continued partnership with West Chester University, eligible seniors are able to participate in dual enrollment on Kennett’s campus with our own staff.

Full Year - 6 College Credits from West Chester University (WCU) - 1 KHS Credit

The College English Course is open to a limited number of students who meet the WCU selection Criteria. This class is two college classes in one; therefore, students will be exposed to college appropriate materials, teaching methods, and topics. The determination of the course to be offered is at the discretion of the college.

This course will cost $1200 ($600 due in August and $600 due in January, unless otherwise directed by WCU). All college fees are the responsibility of the students.

The first half of the year will be LIT 165: Topics in Literature: This section of LIT 165 is organized around the topic of “Monsters and Society.” The course will explore how literal and metaphorical monsters reflect societal fears, cultural anxieties, and ethical dilemmas.

The second half of the year will be  LIT 100: Popular Culture: This section of LIT 100 is organized about the topic of “True Crime.” The course will examine how the true crime genre reflects societal fears, cultural obsessions, and ethical challenges. Eligibility requirements: To be eligible to take this course, a student must be an academic senior and on track to graduate, have an overall GPA of 2.8, and a GPA average of 3.0 for their English classes.  Students also need to have a recommendation from their English teacher. Students are expected to maintain a 2.0 (C- average) over the course of the semester.

We are thrilled to announce an exciting new partnership with Immaculata University! Through this collaboration, Kennett High School (KHS) students enrolled in Advanced Placement (AP) courses can now earn college credits based on successful course completion—regardless of their AP Exam score or participation. All KHS AP teachers and courses have been thoroughly vetted and approved by Immaculata University. Simply put, if your child earns an "A" in their KHS AP course, Immaculata will honor that same grade for its equivalent college course.  

At Immaculata University, the cost for dual enrollment courses is $125 per college credit hour.  Registering for college credit via Immaculata University is optional and all costs associated with registration and tuition are the responsibility of the student/family. Please note that tuition costs are subject to change at the discretion of Immaculata University. Participation in the dual enrollment program or the AP exam is determined solely by the student and family, and AP teachers will provide further details at the start of the course.

Through our continuing and expanding partners with the University of Delaware, KHS students will now have the opportunity to participate in two dual enrollment courses, EntreX and DesignX.

The EntreX Program equips high school students with the skills they need to thrive in a rapidly changing world. By fostering agile thinking and creative problem-solving, students are empowered to address real-world challenges in their classrooms and communities. Course offerings include entrepreneurship (EntreX - 3 credits), sustainable design (DesignX - 3 credits), and leadership, each with the opportunities to earn college credit at a significantly discounted rate. These courses help students demonstrate their ability to succeed in university-level work while developing essential skills like collaboration, critical thinking, and persuasive communication.

Each course costs approximately $500 and is due at the beginning of the semester or when required by the University of Delaware.  All college fees are the responsibility of the students.
