Vicky Gallivan to Play Lacrosse at the University of Pennsylvania

A three-sport, four-year varsity starter, Vicky has had an outstanding athletic career to date. In addition to playing lacrosse, Vicky is also a member of Kennett High School’s field hockey and basketball teams.

Vicky’s lacrosse athletic honors include being named to the First Team Ches-Mont All-League Lacrosse team every year since her freshman year; Ches-Mont League leading scorer as a sophomore; Leading scorer since her sophomore year; and Offensive Player of the Year as a sophomore and junior. Vicky scored her 100th career goal as a sophomore, and is now entering her senior year with 182 goals. Vicky has also represented Philadelphia in the National Tournament twice, and led the Kennett Blue Demons to the PIAA District 1 playoffs for the last three years.

Vicky’s field hockey athletic honors include being named to the Second Team Ches-Month All-League Field Hockey team as a sophomore and junior, and the First Team Ches-Mont All-League Field Hockey team as a senior. Elected as team captain her senior year, Vicky led the Kennett Blue Demons to the second-round of the PIAA District 1 playoffs, and was one of the 44 players in the Philadelphia region selected to play in the Philadelphia Field Hockey Senior All-Star Game. Vicky has earned the distinguished honors of being named Team Most Valuable Player as a senior, leading the team in assists and goals, and Player of the Year as a junior.

In addition to Vicky’s impressive list of lacrosse and field hockey athletic honors, she was also named as team captain of the Kennett High School girls basketball team her senior year, where she led the team to the PIAA District 1 Playoffs.

Vicky’s athletic successes are mirrored by her academic successes. Vicky has earned the Pennsylvania 7th Congressional District Scholar-Athlete Award and is a National Merit Scholarship Commended student. Ranked in the top 5% of her class, Vicky is a National Honor Society member, AP Scholar, and has earned Distinguished Honors every semester since her freshman year. Vicky is the Sports Editor of the Yearbook Club, the Vice President of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and a member of the Future Business Leaders of America. In her free time, Vicky is a counselor at the Kennett Area Parks and Recreation Board Summer Camp.

Vicky is excited and proud to have the opportunity to play lacrosse the University of Pennsylvania, and commends its phenomenal academics and athletics programs. Vicky has been accepted into the Wharton School of Business where she will major in business.

Kelsey Mentzer to Play Lacrosse at Villanova University

A four sport athlete, Kelsey had had a very successful athletic career to date. In addition to playing lacrosse, Kelsey has been a member of the high school’s field hockey, cross country, and track and field teams.

Kelsey’s athletic honors include being named to the Ches-Mont All-Conference field hockey team as an honorable mention in 2015, as well as being named to the Ches-Mont All-Conference lacrosse team as an honorable mention in 2016. A quick and thoughtful midfielder, Kelsey also earned a spot on the National Pennsylvania Brine Lacrosse Team, a travel team that features the top ranked high school players in the state. She was named as the lacrosse team’s captain her senior year.

Kelsey is just as much of an all-star in the classroom as she in on the field. She is a member of the National Honors Society and has earned Distinguished Honors all four years of high school.

Kelsey is honored to have had the opportunity to represent Kennett High School in a variety sports. She would like to thank all of her coaches for playing an integral part of her development as an athlete.

Ashley Mastronardo to Play Lacrosse at Widener University

Kennett High School senior Ashley Mastronardo has signed her National Letter of Intent to play lacrosse at Widener University.

Ashley has had a very successful athletic career to date with the Kennett High School girls lacrosse team as well as her club Ashley Mastronardo Signs NLIteam, Sepa Lacrosse. A thoughtful and dedicated player, Ashley has played an important role in Kennett Consolidated School District’s lacrosse program for six years. In addition to lacrosse, Ashley is also a member of Kennett High School’s field hockey team.

Ashley is not only a stellar athlete, but also a dedicated student. Her successes on the field follow her into the community where she is a Big Sister in Kennett High School’s newest after-school mentoring program and a youth field hockey and lacrosse coach.

Ashley is excited to continue playing lacrosse at the collegiate level in the Widener Pride!

While Ashley has not settled a field of study, she is interested in exploring different business courses during her first year at Widener University.

Alumni Day at Kennett High School Information

Alumni Day at Kennett High School will be Thursday, December 22 from 8am to 1pm. Entrance to the school will be at the main lobby; the south-wing entrance will be locked. All visitors must sign in and receive a visitor pass sticker to be worn visibly on shirt or jacket.

Refreshments for alumni will be available in the library from 8am to 1pm. The Holiday Concert begins at 8:45am in the auditorium. (No food or drink should be taken into the auditorium).

Please remember – The day is an instructional day. Signs will be placed on classroom doors indicating whether or not a teacher is available to visit.

Kennett High School Ceramics Sale Supports Program

Seven years ago, Kennett High School art teacher, Ms. Jodi Davidson, and her students developed this creative way to add to their annual budget, with all proceeds from the sale helping to support the purchase of materials like clay and glaze for future projects.

Ms. Davidson noted, “The students have created some amazing work, and the money goes directly back into our program.” Last year’s sale raised approximately $500.

Kennett High School Model UN Club Attends Competition at Temple University

On Saturday, November 5, Model UN club members attended OwlMUN, a Model UN conference sponsored by Temple University. Kennett High School students participated in a variety of activities as they debated world issues and crises. Victoria Gonzalez took home the Distinguished Delegate Gavel for her work on Indonesia’s Food Administrative Organization. Honorable Mention went to Kennett High School delegates Kevin Fiss, Henry Shattuck, Mantra Yang, James Hanby, Karma Yang, and Sebastian Kley.

KHS Food Drive

Kennett High School recently recognized the KHS Humanitarian Club and Mini-THON Committee for demonstrating Kennett P.R.I.D.E. through their community service activities.

The Humanitarian Club held a successful food drive at Kennett High School during the month of October. Additional cans of food were collected as admission to the family-oriented Fall Festival, organized by Co-Chairs, Olivia Pagliaro and Ben Skross. As a result of their efforts, the KHS Humanitarian Club delivered over three tons of food and five hundred dollars to the Kennett Food Cupboard, benefiting over 500 families in the Kennett Square area.

The Mini-THON is an eight-hour dance marathon modeled after Penn State’s THON. Austin Maxwell, Mini-THON Committee Chair, reported that Kennett High School’s Mini-THON raised $20,790 this past February for the Four Diamonds Organization, providing financial assistance to families who have a child battling cancer as well as funds for pediatric cancer research. The goal for this year is to raise $65,000 at the Mini-THON scheduled for February 24 – 25, 2017.

Jackie Tucker and Molly Adelman, Co-Presidents of the Humanitarian Club, report a combined membership of approximately 125 high school students in the Humanitarian Club and Mini-THON Committee. Kennett High School commends these students for making a difference in their school and community!

Kennett High School Student-Athlete To Play Division I Golf

Kennett High School senior Evan Brown signed his National Letter of Intent to play Division I golf at Loyola University Maryland in Baltimore, Maryland. evan-brown-signing

As a Blue Demon, Evan has had a very successful golf career. He received All Ches-Mont Team honors for 4 consecutive years, and most recently won the 2016 Ches-Mont League Golf Championship during his final season as Blue Demon. Evan was recognized as Honorable Mention for the USGA-AJGA President’s Leadership Award.

His successes on the green are closely rivaled by his successes in the classroom. Evan is an active member of both Future Business Leaders of America and high school’s Finance Club.

Evan is excited to work with Loyola University Maryland Head Coach Chris Bologa and the rest of his teammates to bring the Patriot League Championship back to the Greyhounds.

Evan will study business at Loyola University Maryland.
