Principal’s Message 12/11/2020

The purpose of this communication is to share that the midterm exams scheduled for Kennett High School students the week of January 25th have been cancelled. Historically, midterms have counted for 10% of a student’s overall grade for year long classes; however, since they are cancelled, that 10% will be redistributed among the 4 marking periods. For semester courses, there will be no final exam, and each marking period will now count for 50% of a student’s grade.

Not having midterms prioritizes instructional time for our students and will allow us to operate on a normal schedule for the week of January 25th. However, please note that on Tuesday, January 26th, we will administer the PSATs to all junior and sophomores who opted to take the test. All students not participating in the PSAT on the 26th will access their learning asynchronously.

The updated schedule for the week of January 25th has been attached to this email.

If you have any questions about this change, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Thank you,

Jeremy Hritz, Ed.D.

Principal, Kennett High School

I hope this was a great week for all of you! Friday, Dec. 4th marks the conclusion of the 16th day of the second marking period, and our students continue to work hard in the remote learning setting. A reminder, even though it is only December 4th, the second marking period ends of January 29th. In the blink of an eye, this date will be here, so it is important that your child engages in his or her classes.

Your support of your child in the remote learning setting is greatly appreciated, and I encourage all of your to continue to talk with your student about their academic performance during the second marking period.

Here are a few updates as we finish up the first week of December:

  2. Please be reminded that student attendance to class is taken every day in Skyward. When students are present in Microsoft Teams, they are marked as present for attendance in our system. Daily attendance to class is mandatory for students.
  3. Winter break for students is December 23rd through January 3rd. There will be no school for students on these dates. Remote Learning will resume for students on Monday, January 4th.
  4. Our next PTSO Meeting will take place on Thursday, January 7th at 6:00 and 7:00 PM. More information to come.

  6. There will be no school for students on Monday, January 18th.
  7. Kennett High School and the schools in the Ches-Mont League are currently developing a solution that will allow winter sports to occur safely. All voluntary workouts for all high school teams are suspended. Currently, the health and safety plans that will include protocols for each sport are being provided to the coaches to be followed by the teams once we are able to resume activities. More information will follow as decisions are made.
  8. Several teachers have communicated to students and families that there are materials available for pickup in our high school lobby. If you have not yet done so, please stop by to collect any supplies that you may have not yet retrieved for classes. If you are unsure as to whether or not to pick up materials, please reach out to your teachers and confirm with them.
  9. If you have not done so yet, please follow us on Instagram and Twitter @KCSDKennettHS.

Hybrid Schedule Update-Bell Schedule

Yesterday evening, the Kennett Consolidated School District School Board voted to extend the remote learning period at Kennett High School due to the increase in COVID cases in Chester County. Consequently, the reopening of KHS in a hybrid format has been postponed until Monday, November 30th. As new information regarding our reopening becomes available, we will be sure to share it with you.

Even though we are continuing in the remote learning environment until November 30th, our bell schedule will change slightly. As a reminder, Mondays and Thursdays will always be “A” Days, while Tuesdays and Fridays will be “B” Days. On Wednesdays, students will participate in all 8 blocks remotely for a shortened time frame. Please review the schedules included in this email to ensure you are familiar with them. These new bell schedules will take effect on Monday, November 16th.

We are disappointed we will not see our students on Monday, but we are taking every precaution to ensure their safety during this challenging time.

If I can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Sincerely,

Jeremy Hritz, Ed.D.

Atentamente,

Jeremy Hritz, Ed.D.

Director de la Escuela Secundaria de Kennett

Principal’s Message 11/9/2020

KHS Parents and Guardians!

Today marks the conclusion of the 9th week of Remote Learning! There are only 2 more days remaining in the first marking period, and the second marking period will begin on Wednesday, November 11th. Please encourage your child to finish the marking period with their best effort and launch into the second marking period with momentum.

As we finish up, I wanted to share these important notes and upcoming events:

Lunches in the Hybrid Schedule

I appreciate the feedback and questions provided through the survey I sent out earlier this week. One of the questions that came up repeatedly was in regards to lunch periods and how they work in our Hybrid schedule. Please read through the following description for specifics of how lunches operate:

  • Lunches are not a full dedicated Block (period) as they were in previous years.
  • Lunches are during Blocks 5 (A Days) and 6 (B Days).
  • Blocks 5 and 6 are each broken into 3 groups; A, B, and C (1st Lunch, 2nd Lunch, and 3rd Lunch respectively).
    • Schedules display 5A, 6A, 5B, 6B, 5C, and 6C for Block 5 and 6.
  • Bell Schedule during Blocks 5 and 6:
    • Blocks 5A/6A = 11:10am-11:45am (1st Lunch) = eat during A (1st lunch) and then have class during B & C.
    • Blocks 5B/6B = 11:55am-12:30pm (2nd Lunch) = have class during A, then eat during B (2nd lunch), and then back to class during C.
    • Blocks 5C/6C = 12:40pm-1:15pm (3rd Lunch) = have class during A & B and then eat during C (3rd lunch).

KHS Virtual Tour

There have been questions regarding tours for our 9th grade students and students new to the district. On the first day that each Cohort returns to school, we will be providing tours to our new students to familiarize them with the building.

We have also recorded a virtual tour to provide an introduction to the building which you can access at the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9M9vHWJel0

Student Drop Off and Pick Up Locations

We have also had questions regarding student drop off and pick up in the hybrid schedule. Please access the provided attachment for directions and illustrations of where to drop off and pick up your children during school days.

KHS Drop Off and Pick Up Information – English and Spanish
