To the Unidad Club from Ms. Hartford

My first year as Unidad faculty advisor was extremely rewarding for so many reasons, but the students were what made my time so much fun. I’d like to say thank you to all Unidad members for your attendance at our weekly meetings and for your participation in this year’s many fundraisers. Thank you for volunteering your time to help us brainstorm ideas, decorate holiday grams, distribute goodies, and serve your Kennett High School Community! I’d also like to give a special shout out to our officers for this year: Samantha Mondragon, Milady Lagunas, Magali Ortiz, Jaqueline Hernandez, and Carolina Hernandez. Thank you, ladies, for your hard work and dedication, and for leading us so well! It has been an honor to work alongside you all. Lastly, to our seniors, we will miss you dearly! Thank you for all that you have done during your time with Unidad and Kennett High School. I hope that as you leave Kennett High School and become a member of a different community, you continue to give back, volunteer your time, and look for ways that you can help others wherever you may be. To the School Store Student Leaders from Mrs. Barber

Thank you to all of the young ladies who volunteered their time each morning with working the school store. Because of their efforts, students were well stocked with school supplies and well dressed in Kennett apparel. We actually sold a record number of apparel items this year and I couldn’t have done it without their efforts. I look forward to working with everyone again next year, and I hope you all have a safe and restful summer.

I am proud of your accomplishments this year. It was a privilege to be the advisor and I look forward to next year. For my seniors, I wish we could have ended your last year on a better note but we had a great year in large part because of your effort and wisdom. Thank you!

The music department is very proud of the hard work and dedication displayed by our band, orchestra, and chorus students this year. We were looking forward to our spring concerts and feel confident that our students would have ensured their success. We hope that you are all finding ways to keep making music during this time.

Mi primer año como asesor académico de Unidad fue extremadamente gratificante por muchas razones, pero los estudiantes fueron lo que hizo que mi tiempo fuera tan divertido. A la tienda de la escuela Líderes estudiantiles de la Sra. Barber

Gracias a todas las señoritas que ofrecieron voluntariamente su tiempo cada mañana para trabajar en la tienda de la escuela. Debido a sus esfuerzos, los estudiantes estaban bien abastecidos con útiles escolares y bien vestidos con ropa de Kennett. De hecho, vendimos un número récord de prendas de vestir este año y no podría haberlo hecho sin sus esfuerzos. Espero volver a trabajar con todos el año que viene, y espero que todos tengan un verano tranquilo y seguro.

Estoy orgulloso de tus logros este año. Fue un privilegio ser el asesor y espero con ansias el próximo año. Para mis mayores, desearía haber podido terminar su último año con una mejor nota, pero tuvimos un gran año en gran parte debido a su esfuerzo y sabiduría. ¡Gracias!

Hello Senior Class 2020!

I hope that this letter finds you in good health as we navigate these trying times. The purpose is to let you know that the Graduation Committee is working hard to continue our preparations for Graduation 2020. While we don’t know exactly what the ceremony will look like yet, there are some aspects that we are able to place in motion, namely graduation speakers and speeches.

If you are interested in speaking at graduation, this is your opportunity. Please respond to me at mhughes@kcsd.org absolutely no later than TUESDAY April 21, 2020. Auditions will be held via Zoom conference on THURSDAY APRIL 30, 2020. You will not receive an invitation for a Zoom conference if I don’t hear from you by the 4/21/2020 deadline.

Logistics:

1. Notify Mrs. Hughes (mhughes@kcsd.org) of intent by Tuesday 4/21/2020.
2. Receive your ZOOM invitation by Monday 4/27/2020.
3. Write your 2-3 minute speech (a graduation speech should touch, entertain and inspire).
4. Practice, practice, practice!
5. Join the Zoom session Thursday afternoon 4/30/2020 during your assigned time slot.

*The audition is closed and the panel consists of: Hritz, Wilson, Duffy & Hughes.

Notification of candidates are via Zoom conference with Mrs. Hughes on Friday 5/1.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Also, attached to the bottom of this letter are some recommendations from Mrs. Wilson and Mr. Duffy. I suggest that you carefully read and consider their comments.

To The Class of 2020,

Thank you for considering auditioning as a Commencement speaker. We truly value your hard work, appreciate your effort, and recognize your willingness to take a risk. Before you audition, please be aware that if you are one of the students chosen to speak on behalf of your graduating class and represent our school at Commencement, there are a few requirements to consider:

1. Most importantly, you need to recognize that while you are the one behind the microphone, your voice represents the sentiments of your entire graduating class. While it would be nice to publicly recognize the people in your life who have helped you realize this goal, this is not the forum for such a personal message.
2. The speech you present during the audition is considered a “rough draft.” While our intent is not to edit or change the spirit of your message, it will be subject to revision for final presentation at Commencement. You will be consulted concerning all changes. Alterations include but are not limited to grammar, emphasis, word choice, and redundancy.
3. You will be asked to attend a mandatory series of meetings with the other speakers who are chosen at the audition. Every effort will be made to accommodate work, school, and sports schedules. The frequency and length of these meetings will vary. You must remember that your individual speech requires attention but also that your speech is part of a collaborative presentation. You will be asked to take constructive criticism regarding the style, manner, delivery, and effectiveness of your speaking presence.
4. You must attend the rehearsals as scheduled
5. The approved speech is the one you will deliver at Commencement. There will be no “ad-libbing” and no personal “shout outs” in your speech.
6. If you are unable to fulfill the above requirements, please reconsider your audition. If, as a chosen speaker, you are unable to meet these requirements, your allotted time at Commencement will be offered to another candidate.

Hola Senior Class 2020!

Espero que esta carta lo encuentre en buena salud mientras navegamos estos tiempos difíciles. El propósito es hacerle saber que el Comité de Graduación está trabajando arduamente para continuar nuestros preparativos para la Graduación 2020. Si bien aún no sabemos exactamente cómo será la ceremonia, hay algunos aspectos que podemos poner en marcha, a saber, oradores y discursos de graduación.

Si está interesado en hablar en la graduación, esta es su oportunidad. Por favor respondeme en mhughes@kcsd.org absolutamente a más tardar el MARTES 21 de abril de 2020 . A la clase de 2020,

Gracias por considerar audicionar como orador de inicio. Realmente valoramos su arduo trabajo, apreciamos su esfuerzo y reconocemos su disposición a correr riesgos. Antes de audicionar, tenga en cuenta que si usted es uno de los estudiantes elegidos para hablar en nombre de su clase de graduación y representa a nuestra escuela al comienzo, hay algunos requisitos a tener en cuenta:

1. Lo más importante es que debes reconocer que mientras estás detrás del micrófono, tu voz representa los sentimientos de toda tu clase de graduación. 3. Se le pedirá que asista a una serie obligatoria de reuniones con los otros oradores elegidos en la audición. Se hará todo lo posible para acomodar los horarios de trabajo, escuela y deportes. La frecuencia y duración de estas reuniones variarán. Debe recordar que su discurso individual requiere atención, pero también que su discurso es parte de una presentación colaborativa. Se le pedirá que tome críticas constructivas con respecto al estilo, la manera, la entrega y la eficacia de su presencia oral.

KHS CONTINUITY OF LEARNING PLAN

Starting 4-13-2020

Schedule Description

• Students will attend their classes based on their daily school schedule. During the assigned times for the periods, students are to log in to Schoology.
• Students will attend periods 1-5 Mondays and Thursday. They will attend periods 6-9 on Tuesdays and Fridays.
• Class periods are 35 minutes in length. 15-25 minutes will be utilized for instruction which can be accessed after the class period ends for reinforcement.
• During the assigned periods, teachers will be accessible to students through some kind of communicative medium (email, chat, etc.). Please talk with your teacher to determine the methods of communication available to you.
• Resource and support teachers will have the ability to push-in to class periods to provide individualized assistance.
• Wednesday will be a student workday to finish assignments. Teachers will have office hours during this time and will utilize the day for lesson preparation, formative assessment, peer collaboration, and professional development.
• Grading for the 4^th marking period will begin on Monday, April 13^th. More information to come.

Student Expectations

Logging into Schoology

All students should log in to Schoology for their assigned periods and complete the activities and tasks assigned by the teachers. The number of times students login will be determined by the number of classes they have in their schedule on any given day. For example, if a student has 3 classes on Mondays and Thursday, they should login to those specific classes a minimum of 3 times. This is a minimum only, and students may login as many times they see as necessary. If you cannot, please access the course material at some other time during the day/week. Students should be spending between 2-5 hours completing teacher created lessons.

Complete Teacher Assigned Tasks and Assignments

Teachers will be providing specific activities for students to complete each day. Students are to follow the directions for these activities and complete tasks as indicated on Schoology.

Communicate with Teachers

Students must communicate with their teachers as necessary. Students may do this during assigned class periods or established office hours. Students should capitalize on these opportunities to ask questions and to seek help.

Create a Personal Learning Schedule

Write out a daily routine for you to follow that includes not only the times you have to virtually attend your classes, but also the times you will complete assignments. You should also factor in time for breaks throughout your day. Adjust your schedule based on the work assigned to you and follow it to ensure a successful learning experience.

Identify a Workspace

Identify a space that is available to you where you can work quietly and comfortably.

Family Expectations

Communicate with Your Children

Assist your child in creating a schedule that accommodates assigned classes, work time, and coordination of availability of devices in your home. This is a great opportunity to teach your child about time management and utilizing available resources to work effectively on their own. It is also highly encouraged to check-in with your child at the beginning of the day to learn about their scheduled learning tasks, and also at the end of the day, to learn about their experience from the day. This will help to keep your child engaged in their learning.

Encourage Your Child to Communicate with Teachers

It is important during this school closure for students to communicate with their teachers. Have your child contact their teachers through email or some other type of communication to ensure an optimal learning experience. Parents are also strongly encouraged to reach out to teachers as well.
