Hello Senior Class 2020!
I hope that this letter finds you in good health as we navigate these trying times. The purpose is to let you know that the Graduation Committee is working hard to continue our preparations for Graduation 2020. While we don’t know exactly what the ceremony will look like yet, there are some aspects that we are able to place in motion, namely graduation speakers and speeches.
If you are interested in speaking at graduation, this is your opportunity. Please respond to me at mhughes@kcsd.org absolutely no later than TUESDAY April 21, 2020. Auditions will be held via Zoom conference on THURSDAY APRIL 30, 2020. You will not receive an invitation for a Zoom conference if I don’t hear from you by the 4/21/2020 deadline.
Logistics:
- Notify Mrs. Hughes (mhughes@kcsd.org) of intent by Tuesday 4/21/2020.
- Receive your ZOOM invitation by Monday 4/27/2020.
- Write your 2-3 minute speech (a graduation speech should touch, entertain and inspire).
- Practice, practice, practice!
- Join the Zoom session Thursday afternoon 4/30/2020 during your assigned time slot.
*The audition is closed and the panel consists of: Hritz, Wilson, Duffy & Hughes.
Notification of candidates are via Zoom conference with Mrs. Hughes on Friday 5/1.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Also, attached to the bottom of this letter are some recommendations from Mrs. Wilson and Mr. Duffy. I suggest that you carefully read and consider their comments.

To The Class of 2020,
Thank you for considering auditioning as a Commencement speaker. We truly value your hard work, appreciate your effort, and recognize your willingness to take a risk. Before you audition, please be aware that if you are one of the students chosen to speak on behalf of your graduating class and represent our school at Commencement, there are a few requirements to consider:
- Most importantly, you need to recognize that while you are the one behind the microphone, your voice represents the sentiments of your entire graduating class. While it would be nice to publicly recognize the people in your life who have helped you realize this goal, this is not the forum for such a personal message.
- The speech you present during the audition is considered a “rough draft.” While our intent is not to edit or change the spirit of your message, it will be subject to revision for final presentation at Commencement. You will be consulted concerning all changes. Alterations include but are not limited to grammar, emphasis, word choice, and redundancy.
- You will be asked to attend a mandatory series of meetings with the other speakers who are chosen at the audition. Every effort will be made to accommodate work, school, and sports schedules. The frequency and length of these meetings will vary. You must remember that your individual speech requires attention but also that your speech is part of a collaborative presentation. You will be asked to take constructive criticism regarding the style, manner, delivery, and effectiveness of your speaking presence.
- You must attend the rehearsals as scheduled
- The approved speech is the one you will deliver at Commencement. There will be no “ad-libbing” and no personal “shout outs” in your speech.
- If you are unable to fulfill the above requirements, please reconsider your audition. If, as a chosen speaker, you are unable to meet these requirements, your allotted time at Commencement will be offered to another candidate.

Espero que esta carta lo encuentre en buena salud mientras navegamos estos tiempos difíciles. El propósito es hacerle saber que el Comité de Graduación está trabajando arduamente para continuar nuestros preparativos para la Graduación 2020. Si bien aún no sabemos exactamente cómo será la ceremonia, hay algunos aspectos que podemos poner en marcha, a saber, oradores y discursos de graduación.
Si está interesado en hablar en la graduación, esta es su oportunidad. Por favor respondeme en mhughes@kcsd.org absolutamente a más tardar el MARTES 21 de abril de 2020 . Las audiciones se llevarán a cabo a través de la conferencia Zoom en JUEVES 30 DE ABRIL DE 2020. No recibirá una invitación para una conferencia de Zoom si no tengo noticias suyas antes de la fecha límite del 4/21/2020.
Logística:

- Reciba su invitación ZOOM antes del lunes 4/27/2020.

A la clase de 2020,
Gracias por considerar audicionar como orador de inicio. Realmente valoramos su arduo trabajo, apreciamos su esfuerzo y reconocemos su disposición a correr riesgos. Antes de audicionar, tenga en cuenta que si usted es uno de los estudiantes elegidos para hablar en nombre de su clase de graduación y representa a nuestra escuela al comienzo, hay algunos requisitos a tener en cuenta:
- Lo más importante es que debes reconocer que mientras estás detrás del micrófono, tu voz representa los sentimientos de toda tu clase de graduación. Si bien sería bueno reconocer públicamente a las personas en su vida que lo ayudaron a alcanzar este objetivo, este no es el foro para un mensaje tan personal.
- El discurso que presente durante la audición se considera un “borrador”. Si bien nuestra intención no es editar o cambiar el espíritu de su mensaje, estará sujeto a revisión para su presentación final en el comienzo. Se le consultará sobre todos los cambios. Las alteraciones incluyen, entre otras, gramática, énfasis, elección de palabras y redundancia.
- Se le pedirá que asista a una serie obligatoria de reuniones con los otros oradores elegidos en la audición. Se hará todo lo posible para acomodar los horarios de trabajo, escuela y deportes. La frecuencia y duración de estas reuniones variarán. Debe recordar que su discurso individual requiere atención, pero también que su discurso es parte de una presentación colaborativa. Se le pedirá que tome críticas constructivas con respecto al estilo, la manera, la entrega y la eficacia de su presencia oral.
- Debes asistir a los ensayos según lo programado
- El discurso aprobado es el que entregará al comienzo. No habrá “improvisaciones” ni “gritos” personales en su discurso.
- Si no puede cumplir con los requisitos anteriores, reconsidere su audición. Si, como orador elegido, no puede cumplir con estos requisitos, su tiempo asignado al comienzo se le ofrecerá a otro candidato.
