Principal’s Message 11/25

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, and on behalf of all of us at KHS, we wish you a happy holiday!

I want to thank all of you who attended last night’s PTSO meeting! We appreciate your engagement and support of KHS! Please note our next PTSO meeting will not take place until mid-January. A date will be announced sometime in December.

Here are a few notes and updates as we close out the day:

  1. There is no school tomorrow, Thursday, November 26th and Friday, November 27th.
  2. Junior families will receive a letter that will provide details about the January 26th PSAT. In the letter will be a link for a Google Survey that all junior families are to complete by December 1st to let us know their intention about having their child(ren) take the exam. The survey link will also be posted on the KHS School Counseling page. Sophomores intending to take the PSAT exam must return a permission form and payment to the high school by December 2nd. Please be on the lookout for this information.
  3. Lincoln University is offering a unique opportunity for students called Upward Bound. Please see the attachment to this email for more information.
  4. As we wrap up the 11th day of the second marking period, we want to take an opportunity to gather more feedback from our families to identify strengths and areas for growth related to our programming at Kennett High School. Please take a few moments to complete the survey that you can find by CLICKING HERE.
  5. Finally, please follow us on Twitter and Instagram @KCSDKennettHS.

Have a great day!

We are only three school days away from the Thanksgiving Holiday, and I want to take this moment to express my gratitude to all of you for your support of your child at Kennett High School! There have been many challenges to begin this school year, but your engagement of your child’s learning has helped to make for a positive experience. Oftentimes, I am asked what makes Kennett unique, and while our students are the primary reason, what cannot be overlooked is the involvement and support that comes from our families and community. Hybrid Schedule Update-Bell Schedule

Yesterday evening, the Kennett Consolidated School District School Board voted to extend the remote learning period at Kennett High School due to the increase in COVID cases in Chester County. Consequently, the reopening of KHS in a hybrid format has been postponed until Monday, November 30th. As new information regarding our reopening becomes available, we will be sure to share it with you.

Even though we are continuing in the remote learning environment until November 30th, our bell schedule will change slightly. As a reminder, Mondays and Thursdays will always be “A” Days, while Tuesdays and Fridays will be “B” Days. On Wednesdays, students will participate in all 8 blocks remotely for a shortened time frame. Please review the schedules included in this email to ensure you are familiar with them. These new bell schedules will take effect on Monday, November 16th.

We are disappointed we will not see our students on Monday, but we are taking every precaution to ensure their safety during this challenging time.

If I can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Sincerely,

Jeremy Hritz, Ed.D.

Atentamente,

Jeremy Hritz, Ed.D.

Principal’s Message 11/9/2020

KHS Parents and Guardians!

Today marks the conclusion of the 9th week of Remote Learning! There are only 2 more days remaining in the first marking period, and the second marking period will begin on Wednesday, November 11th. Please encourage your child to finish the marking period with their best effort and launch into the second marking period with momentum.

As we finish up, I wanted to share these important notes and upcoming events:

Lunches in the Hybrid Schedule

I appreciate the feedback and questions provided through the survey I sent out earlier this week. One of the questions that came up repeatedly was in regards to lunch periods and how they work in our Hybrid schedule. Please read through the following description for specifics of how lunches operate:

  • Lunches are not a full dedicated Block (period) as they were in previous years.
  • Lunches are during Blocks 5 (A Days) and 6 (B Days).
  • Blocks 5 and 6 are each broken into 3 groups; A, B, and C (1st Lunch, 2nd Lunch, and 3rd Lunch respectively).
    • Schedules display 5A, 6A, 5B, 6B, 5C, and 6C for Block 5 and 6.
  • Bell Schedule during Blocks 5 and 6:
    • Blocks 5A/6A = 11:10am-11:45am (1st Lunch) = eat during A (1st lunch) and then have class during B & C.
    • Blocks 5B/6B = 11:55am-12:30pm (2nd Lunch) = have class during A, then eat during B (2nd lunch), and then back to class during C.
    • Blocks 5C/6C = 12:40pm-1:15pm (3rd Lunch) = have class during A & B and then eat during C (3rd lunch).

KHS Virtual Tour

There have been questions regarding tours for our 9th grade students and students new to the district. On the first day that each Cohort returns to school, we will be providing tours to our new students to familiarize them with the building.

We have also recorded a virtual tour to provide an introduction to the building which you can access at the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9M9vHWJel0

Student Drop Off and Pick Up Locations

We have also had questions regarding student drop off and pick up in the hybrid schedule. Please access the provided attachment for directions and illustrations of where to drop off and pick up your children during school days.

Principal’s Message 11/2/2020

Greetings Kennett High School Students and Families!

The purpose of this email is to provide you with an update on our shift to the hybrid schedule beginning Monday, November 16th. Please carefully read through this email and the linked/attached documents to ensure you are prepared for the approaching change.

Hybrid Cohort Assignment: If your child’s last name begins with A through Koch, they have been assigned to the Monday/Tuesday (MT) Cohort. If their last name begins with Koe through Z, they have been assigned to the Thursday/Friday (TF) Cohort. As explained earlier this month, the Cohorts indicate the days students will be attending school in person in the Hybrid Schedule. Please note that Cohorts are unable to be adjusted due to physical distancing constraints.

Please also note that the days when students are not scheduled to be in the building, they will access their classes remotely through Schoology and Microsoft Teams.

Helpful Resources: To assist with the transition to in-person learning, we have developed a handbook that is designed to answer questions you may have. We are also re-sharing the informative document with the adjusted bell schedules and 1st semester calendar for your review.

KHS Student and Family Hybrid Handbook

Hybrid Bell Schedule Information

KHS 1st Semester Calendar

TCHS Hybrid Information: TCHS students who have chosen to attend KHS classes in the hybrid schedule will attend their TCHS programs on the same days in which they attend KHS. Students will be provided transportation to and from their TCHS programs on their hybrid school days. We are only able to provide transportation to students who are attending their KHS classes in person. Students who have chosen to attend their KHS classes virtually but would still like to attend their TCHS programs in person will need to provide their own transportation to TCHS.

Safety is Our Priority: Finally, I want to take a moment as we prepare for our students to return to school to emphasize the importance of our safety procedures. Each and every day, please remind your child of our guiding principles for keeping each other safe at Kennett High School:

  • If you do not feel well, stay home and access school synchronously online.
  • Wear your face mask at all times in the building, except where you are permitted to do otherwise.
  • Maintain 6 feet of physical distance between yourself, peers, and staff members.

We are looking forward to the return of our students on November 16th, and we appreciate your support as parents and guardians to ensure we have the safest possible environment for your children here at school.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Sincerely,

Jeremy Hritz, Ed.D.

Principal, Kennett High School

KHS Student and Family Hybrid Handbook (Spanish)

Hybrid Bell Schedule Information (Spanish)

Atentamente,

Jeremy Hritz, Ed.D.

Director, Escuela secundaria Kennett
