Dear Kennett High School Families,
On Monday, January 11th, Kennett High School will begin in-person learning in the Hybrid setting. Rather than all of our students returning to school at once, a hybrid schedule permits only part of our student body to attend classes each day in order to maintain physical distancing. While the hybrid schedule cannot replicate the learning that can occur in a full return to school, we believe that providing our students with the opportunity to work with their teachers and peers in person will result in a rewarding and enriching experience.
Included with this message are informative documents that were sent out earlier in the school year that explain the hybrid model at Kennett High School and what implications it has for your child and family. Please take the time to reread these documents so that your child is prepared for Monday’s return.
Please also note the following:
- Parents driving their children to school cannot drop students off until 7:20 AM. Please see the attached drop-off directions.
- There will be an orientation and tour of the building for all 9th grade and new students on the opening day for each cohort.
- Face masks must be worn at all times, except where indicated by administration. Please note that bandanas and other non-mask type face coverings are not acceptable.
- Details regarding student lunch locations will be provided by teachers.
- Students are to bring their personal/district-assigned laptop, fully charged, to school each day.

Students Returning to School in the Hybrid Schedule…
Students participating in the Hybrid schedule will attend school for full days in person twice a week, either Monday and Tuesday, OR Thursday and Friday. Your child will participate in remote learning for the other three days of the week. Please read through the Questions/Answers provided below for more specifics.
- How do I know whether my child will be attending school in person on Mondays and Tuesdays, or Thursdays and Fridays?
Students will be assigned to different Cohorts based on alphabetic groups by last name that are labeled by the days of the week they will attend school in person. Students with last names A – Koch will attend school on Mondays and Tuesday, while students with last names Koe – Z will attend school on Thursdays and Fridays.
- If my child is in the Monday and Tuesday Cohort, does this mean he or she will only attend school in person on those days?
Yes, students in the Monday / Tuesday Cohort will only attend school in person on those days and then will attend remotely the other days of the week. Conversely, students in the Thursday / Friday Cohort will only attend school in person on those days and then will attend remotely the other days of the week.
- Will students attend school for a full day in the hybrid schedule?
Yes, students will attend school for a full day, 7:40 AM – 2:35 PM following our AB Block schedule. There have been slight adjustments to the time frames for the blocks to account for lunches. Please be sure to carefully review the bell schedules included with this message.
- How will the AB Block schedule work with the Hybrid Schedule?
Mondays and Thursdays will always be A Days, while Tuesdays and Fridays will always be B Days. Wednesdays will be Remote Learning Days for all students, and students will attend Blocks 1 through 8. Please see the specific schedules included for the time frames.
- Will my child have the same teachers in the Hybrid Schedule?
Yes, your child will have the same teachers, and their schedule will not change.
- Will children be required to wear masks during the school day?
Yes, all students must wear masks throughout the school day, except during the lunch period.
- Will safety procedures and social distancing parameters be in place to protect my child’s health in the Hybrid schedule?
Yes, we will be abiding by the guidelines for returning to school provided by the Chester County Health Department, including ensuring 6 feet of space between students and staff in all classrooms.
- How will learning in the in-person Hybrid Schedule look different from the current Remote Learning environment?
The obvious difference is that students will physically be in class with their peers and teachers. However, teachers will still be teaching students in the remote setting, in addition to the students physically in class, so modifications will be made to provide instruction to all students.
If Your Child Selects to Remain in the Remote Learning Schedule…
If your child has elected to remain in the current Remote Learning environment, nothing will change, and students will continue to take the same courses with the same teachers five days a week. The only difference now is that teachers will be responsible for not only teaching the students participating remotely, but also the students physically in class. There have been slight adjustments to the time frames to the blocks to account for lunch periods, so be sure to carefully review the included bell schedules.
