Principal’s Message 2/22/21

KHS Families,

Once again, we encountered another snowy and icy week, but we were able to push through and continue with instruction through our virtual program. I am sure all of us are looking forward to the promise of warmer weather this springtime, which hopefully is not too far away. As we close out another Friday in this unique school year, I wanted to provide a few notes, reminders, and updates.

1. Pre-Registration for our students taking the SAT at KHS on March 3rd is scheduled during the Flex Period beginning Monday, February 22, 2021. Please see the schedule for Pre-Registration below. For students who are participating in the virtual learning program, they may attend according to the below schedule, or attend either of the after school pre-registration sessions which are being offered Tuesday, February 23rd and Thursday, February 25th from 3:00 – 3:45 PM. Students should report to the main lobby on these days, and they will be directed to the Pre-Registration location. A friendly reminder that face masks must be worn, social distancing parameters must be followed, and the health screening should be completed prior to coming into the building.

3. Every school day counts! Attendance in school is required by law and important to your student’s success regardless of your method of instruction – hybrid (in-person) or virtual (at home). Attached to this email is important information regarding student attendance. Please take the time to carefully read through this information. Click Here to view: KCSD Attendance Reminders

4. The next PTSO meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 3rd. A Spanish-language version will begin at 6:00 PM, while an English-language version will begin at 7:00 PM. Links for these meetings will be sent out the morning of March 3rd.

Introducing The Demon Press

We are proud to announce that we have recently launched a new part of the district website dedicated to student journalism here at KHS.

This is a joint venture between the students working with KTV and the newspaper club. “We decided last year that the most authentic journalism experience these two groups could have would be if their work was featured online since that is where so much journalism happens these days”, Mr. Scott Bosch remarked.

On the site you can find articles written by student writers for the newspaper, archived episodes of KTV, and isolated segments created for the show.

Finally, Newspoint (scrolling daily announcements) is also embedded so that our students who are at home can have access to the same information that is broadcast in KHS.

KTV and Newspaper crews work hard to make sure that content is updated regularly. Click the link and enjoy!

Principal’s Message -2/5/21

Happy Friday KHS Families!

I hope you all had a great week despite the disruptions to our schedule due to the snow. Hopefully, the weather becomes more favorable, and spring weather arrives early!

We are now one week into the third marking period, and our students are working hard to make the most of their learning experiences in the classroom. Please note that while it seems far away, the third marking period will conclude on Wednesday, April 7th. Continue to encourage your children to give their best effort in the classroom and to reach out to their teachers if they need support. If I can be of any assistance to you, I am always here to help and can be reached via email at jhritz@kcsd.org.

Here are a few notes and reminders as we finish up the first week of February:

1. There is no school for students on Monday, February 15th. Please mark your calendars.

2. Regarding attendance, please be advised that we are reinstating the daily automatic absence notifications (via phone calls and emails) beginning on Monday, February 8th.

3. Course scheduling for next school year will be starting near the end of the month. Be on the lookout for information regarding the scheduling process soon.

4. Report cards and honor roll certificates for the second marking period will be mailed home early next week.

5. We are currently hard at work on our plans for graduation and other exciting activities and events for our seniors. While some of these events will look different this year because of restrictions as a result of the pandemic, we are exploring all possibilities to provide our soon-to-be graduates with memorable celebratory experiences.

6. Plans for a prom experience for students are in development. We are working to develop a safe prom plan that adheres to all safety guidelines. While prom will not occur in its traditional format, we will create something enjoyable for our students to participate in this spring. More information will be provided once details are finalized.

7. The SATs for registered Kennett High School students are scheduled for Wednesday, March 3rd. Pre-registration for the SATs will occur the week of February 22nd and the specifics of this process will be sent out next week. All students not registered for the SAT on March 3rd will participate in asynchronous learning activities on this day.

8. Our next PTSO meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 3rd. A Spanish-language session will begin at 6:00 PM, and our English-language session will begin at 7:00 PM. During this meeting, we will discuss course scheduling for next school year.

9. Finally, just a reminder for our students participating virtually, if you have not picked up your materials for the 2nd semester, you can do so after school between the hours of 2:45 and 4:00 PM.

That is all for today. Please have a wonderful Friday, and a relaxing and restful weekend.

Sincerely,

Jeremy Hritz, Ed.D.

Principal, Kennett High School
