Celebrating the Class of 2021

Kennett Education Foundation and Kennett High School Teachers Deliver Lawn Signs to Seniors

In the hours just after school on Thursday, April 22, over 20 Kennett High School teachers and administrators along with members of the Kennett Education Foundation (KEF) placed signs on the lawns of all 319 members of KHS’s 130th graduating class, the class of 2021. These volunteers drove district bus routes, planting the signs at the homes of seniors.

For the second year, the signs were funded by a generous donation from KEF. Lettered in Kennett blue and white, of course, and featuring the Kennett “K” logo and a graduation cap, each sign proudly proclaims Kennett Education Foundation Congratulates the Class of 2021. The reverse side of the sign offers the same good wishes in Spanish.

KEF printed a total of 400 signs, with plans to place the additional 81 signs at the high school itself, all of the district elementary schools, the middle school, the Y, the Garage, and other businesses and locations around town, so residents are reminded of the important goal attained by KHS seniors. And, the graduates can see tangible proof of the pride of the entire Kennett community in their achievement.

Alison Biloon, current KEF president, was excited that the organization once again sponsored the congratulatory signs for the graduating class.

“These 14 months have been like no other, and KHS seniors deserve to be recognized for their efforts and perseverance throughout virtual, hybrid, and in-person learning. We know they missed some milestones, and we hope this small gesture helps remind the seniors of the support from the district and the community,” said Biloon.

KEF board members worked in partnership with the high school, specifically senior class advisor Mrs. Peggy Hughes, on the project. Hughes was tasked with organizing the distribution of the signs and recruiting volunteers.

“When I asked the staff for help, the response was overwhelming. Our seniors are so loved, and the sign planting was a fun way to recognize them and all of their hard work,” she shared.

Kennett High School principal Dr. Jeremy Hritz added, “For the second year in a row, our seniors have been negatively impacted by COVID, and in an effort to ensure they understand how important they are to us, celebrating their imminent accomplishment with the yard signs is a way for us to do just that. We are tremendously grateful for the KEF making this effort possible!”

Students are encouraged to pose with their families in front of their sign and Tweet their photos @KCSDKennettHS.

Congratulations to Kennett High School’s Class of 2021!

Kennett High School Inducts National Honor Society Members

The Kennett High School Blue and White Chapter of the National Honor Society welcomed both the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 inductees at a ceremony and reception on April 7, 2021. The weather cooperated beautifully for the event held at the high school’s football stadium. KHS NHS Induction

Chapter adviser Dr. Alicia Tamargo opened the program, welcoming students and guests to the first in-person, non-athletic event of the 2020-2021 school year. Next, Mr. Duane Kotz, Assistant Principal, called the role of the senior candidates. With the closure of school last year, NHS Induction was one of the many milestone events cancelled in the spring, so senior candidates never had the opportunity to participate in an official celebration.

Mr. Jeffery Thomas, Assistant Principal, administered the pledge of honor, and Dr. Tamargo swore in and announced the newly-elected officers for 2021-2022: Emma Nace, President; Amelia Houck, Vice President; Diana Giganti Dima, Secretary; Mary Harper, Treasurer; and Marissa Reidenberg, Historian. These officers replace graduating seniors Henry Sedano, Sarah Pizzini, Jack Ryan, Evan Sharp, and Ryan Myers.

Principal’s Message

Happy Friday KHS Families,

I hope you had an enjoyable week and a great Friday!

April is drawing to a close, with only one more week left in the month before we move into the busy month of May. As of today, there are 35 school days remaining in the year! As we move into final stretch of the year, please continue to support and encourage your child in their learning so they finish the school year on a positive note.

Here are a few updates and reminders as the school day concludes:

1. Yesterday, KHS Staff and members of the Kennett Education Foundation (KEF) delivered yard signs to all seniors, celebrating their pending significant accomplishment of graduation! It was a great event made possible by the KEF, and we are grateful of their donation of the signs! Thank you KEF, and congratulations seniors! Enjoy these final weeks of your senior year and make the most of them!

2. Testing season will begin soon, and we will be communicating our schedule for Keystone testing sometime next week. The Keystone Exams will take place June 1st through June 8th, and there will be a modified schedule on these days for students. Only students taking Algebra I, Biology, or World Literature, will be participating in the Keystone Exams.

3. Please be reminded that students are not to be dropped off or picked up at the front steps before or after school. Students may be dropped off in the S-Wing or in the lower parking lot in the front of the building. This ensures student safety. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated with this!

4. Only students with an assigned parking tag may park on campus. Students may not park on campus without permission.

5. The next PTSO Meeting is Wednesday, May 12th at 6:00 PM. This will be our final PTSO Meeting of the school year. The links for this meeting will be published the morning of the meeting.

6. There is no school for students on Tuesday, May 18th and Monday, May 31st.

7. Please note the last day of school for students is Tuesday, June 15th.

8. Would you like to hear more student news? We would too! This last year has been tough on everyone, all the more reason, to promote the amazing accomplishments of our Kennett High School students! If your child is participating in a Club, Sports Team, Band, Orchestra, School Musical etc…., please email a short update to the “Bottom of the Book Bag” (BOBB). We publish weekly updates to the entire school community. Almost 750 subscribers! Please note that the BOBB coordinators are parent volunteers, therefore the information shared in the BOBB is only as good as the information we receive. Please email us at: kennetthighbobb@gmail.com. We look forward to you filling up our Mail Box!

9. The quest to remain diligent in our fight against COVID-19 continues. In order to continue our path back to some sense of normalcy, we all need to remain diligent in our fight against COVID-19. This means that we must stay true to the mitigation strategies that are in place and continue to have individuals who do not feel well – STAY HOME! We have recently seen an uptick in situations where individuals not feeling well came to our schools and inadvertently impacted others as they have been identified as close contacts. Any staff member not feeling well, should stay home and contact their direct supervisor. Any student should be checked by his or her parent or guardian prior to coming to school. This includes understanding the definition of close contacts when someone in the household has been identified as a positive or probable case. If you need any assistance, please call your child’s school nurse.

Have a restful and relaxing weekend!

Thank you,

Jeremy Hritz, Ed.D.

Principal’s Message 4/9/21

Happy Friday KHS Families!

I hope everybody is enjoying a great Friday!

We are wrapping up our first week of full in-person learning, and it has been a great step forward in returning to normal in the school setting! Our students were energetic and excited to be back with their teachers and peers, and we look forward to a healthy and safe conclusion to the school year!

With that said, it is imperative that students continue to exercise care and caution in terms of wearing face masks, social distancing, and staying home from school when not feeling well. By taking proactive and preventive measures, we can ensure the safety of our students and staff and continue with the successful operation of school.

As Friday concludes, I wanted to provide a few updates and reminders for everyone:

1. At Tuesday’s PTSO Meeting, we shared the details of our upcoming senior class celebratory events. You can find an overview of these events attached to this email. Please be sure to review this information to be aware of these upcoming events.

2. April is the first ever #ALLin month in Kennett – not only because we are physically #ALLin by returning in-person full day, but also because April is Autism Awareness Month. • ✓ Be sure to bring your device and charger to school
    • ✓ Before leaving home, complete the Daily Entrance Screening for Students

4. Student school pictures will take place on Tuesday, April 13th and Wednesday, April 14th for both “in-person” and “virtual” students. Additionally, our school nurses will be doing vision and hearing exams, as well as obtaining heights and weights from students during this time as well.

5. The next PTSO Meeting is Wednesday, May 12th at 6:00 PM. This will be our final PTSO Meeting of the school year. The links for this meeting will be published the morning of the meeting.

6. All early dismissal notes need to be turned in at the beginning of the day to the main office. Be sure to include your student’s name, ID and a phone number a parent/guardian can be reached at to confirm the note. A note is also necessary for virtual students to be excused from classes during the day. They can be submitted to Ms. Zavala by mzavala@kcsd.org.

7. There is no school for students on Tuesday, May 18th and Monday, May 31st.

8. Please note the last day of school for students is Tuesday, June 15th.

9. Would you like to hear more student news? We would too! This last year has been tough on everyone, all the more reason, to promote the amazing accomplishments of our Kennett High School students! KHS Mini-THON -Mark Your Calendars!

The KHS Mini-THON will take place outdoors at the Kennett Middle School campus on Friday, May 21 from 6:00 to 8:00pm. We are excited to be able to hold an in-person event this year, and we’re confident that with your support, we can make this night just as fun and just as impactful as it has been over the last five years. Together, we are partnering with Four Diamonds to conquer childhood cancer and bring hope to families in their battles!

When we return from break, it’s Mini-THON Challenge week! Teacher and student volunteers will complete ridiculous challenges based on how many registrations and donations we collect that week.

Here are the challenges corresponding to the number of registrations collected the week

  • If 25 people register… Ms. August, Ms. Hartford, and Ms. Curry will post a TikTok video!
  • If 50 people register… Mr. Schultz and Mr. O’Sullivan will do a free throw shootout, and the winner will pour a bucket of ice water on the loser!
  • If 75 people register… Mr. Thomas and Mr. Brientnall will complete Jimmy Fallon’s egg Russian Roulette game, in which they will select eggs from a carton to smash on their heads, not knowing which are hard boiled or raw. The first person to crack two raw eggs on their head loses!
  • If 100 people register… Ms. Wilson will wear a costume to school and Ms. Morihara will do a lip sync performance!

Here are the challenges corresponding to donations collected this week…(You can donate on our Donor Drive page)

  • If we raise $500… Grace Pruitt will wear a dinosaur costume at the mini-THON
  • For $1,000… Mr. Duffy, Ms. Teixeira, and Ms. Miller will wear a tutu to school, and Mikayla Klenk will wear a shark costume!
  • For $2,000… Ms. Rudisill and Ms. Lamoreux will play Ellen’s game of taste! They’ll be blindfolded and then eat mystery food off the table.
  • For $3,000… Mr. Battin, Mr. Gramlich, and Mr. Augustine will take a pie to their face!!
  • For $4,000… Gavin Maxwell will shave his head!
  • And for $5,000… Dr. Hritz and Mr. Kotz will be duct taped to the cafeteria wall for all three lunch periods!

We will close out the Challenge Week with our second virtual Jeopardy Night on Friday, April 9 from 7:00-8:00pm!

Assemble a team of 2-4 contestants, then have the team captain sign up on fourdiamonds.donordrive.com, the same website where you register for the mini-THON. Google “Mini-THON Jeopardy Night – Challenge Week,” and you’ll see our page. You can also find the link on the Library High School Schoology page.

Take a few minutes to register, and we’ll see you that night!
