College Information Night – 11/14

Junior year is filled with decisions about educational planning, college, and careers. The School Counseling Department wants to help you through this exciting, and sometimes challenging chapter of your child’s life.

We invite you to attend

College Information Night

on Thursday, November 14th

from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.,

in the high school auditorium.

In this presentation, we will outline the entire college search and application process, including suggested time-lines, and financial aid resources. We will provide detailed steps on how you can gather information, factors you may consider when choosing the colleges to which your student will apply, and insight into the process that colleges often use when they make admissions decisions. We will also demonstrate the valuable features of our comprehensive college planning program, Naviance, an extremely useful resource for both parents and students. If you have not done so already, please take the opportunity to register for this program by emailing your child’s school counselor.

We encourage you to take advantage of this very valuable meeting for parents and look forward to working together with you and your student. If you have questions at any time, please feel free to contact the School Counseling Office at (610) 444-6636 or through e-mail.

If you are 18 years old or older then you can sign the request form yourself. Please include a stamped and addressed envelope if you need a paper form of your transcript mailed. You should allow 3-4 weeks for the counseling department to process your request and mail your transcript. Since many students request transcripts be sent for a December 1 deadline we ask that you submit any requests for a December 1 deadline no later than November 1.

PSAT Presentations and Junior Planning Meetings

The school counselors at Kennett High School will be busy visiting classrooms of juniors during the week beginning January 11. Juniors will receive their PSAT scores in one meeting with directions for setting up a College Board account and linking their accounts to the free online SAT preparation program offered by the Khan Academy. A second set of classroom visits will provide our juniors with information about the SAT and ACT exams. This information will include registration directions, score sending options, and test taking tips.

The PSAT presentation was delivered to our sophomores in an assembly on Monday, December 18.

Junior planning meetings, including parents, have been ongoing. These are individual meetings held with each junior to explore post-secondary options. This meeting includes information for selecting and applying to colleges, as well as a brief overview of the financial aid process. These meetings typically last approximately 80-90 minutes. Parents of juniors are encouraged to notify their child’s school counselor if they would like to be included in that meeting.
